Other U.S. companies joined after oil was found near Dhahran in 1938. In 1950 Aramco opened a pipeline from Saudi Arabia to the Mediterranean Sea port of Sidon, Leb. It was closed in 1983 except to supply a refinery in Jordan. A more successful pipeline, with a destination on the Persian Gulf, was finished in 1981. In 1951 Aramco found the first offshore oil field in the Middle East. In the 1970s and ’80s, control gradually passed to the Saudi Arabian government, which eventually took over Aramco and renamed it Saudi Aramco in 1988. https://www.britannica.com/topic/Aramco Money: 7 crazy numbers about the world’s largest oil company. Texas Oil Company Aramco:  In 1973, following US support for Israel during the Yom Kippur War, the Saudi Arabian government acquired a 25% "participation interest" in Aramco's assets. It increased its participation interest to 60% in 1974 and acquired the remaining 40% interest in 1976. Aramco continued to operate and manage the former Aramco assets, including its concessionary interest in certain Saudi Arab oil fields, on behalf of the Saudi Arab Government until 1988. In November 1988, a royal decree created a new Saudi Arab company, the Saudi Arabian Oil Company, to take control of the former Aramco assets (or Saudi Aramco)[23] and took the management and operations control of Saudi Arabia's oil and gas fields from Aramco and its partners. In 1989–90, high-quality oil and gas was discovered in three areas south of Riyadh: the Raghib area about 77 miles southeast of the capital.[24] OPEC Oil Embargo (Yom Kippur War) 1973 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saudi_Aramco Aviation Embraer Issue Reuters: BRIEF-Saudi Aramco confirms it unveiled corruption case associated with Embraer (2016/10/28) http://www.reuters.com/article/idUSFWN1CY115 Concurrently Saudi Aramco suspended all business dealings with Embraer since that time * co has ceased all future dealings with Embraer and excluded them from any future business; the company is taking appropriate legal measures against Embraer over the aforementioned violations Forbes: Saudis Nail Brazil Jet Maker Embraer In Corruption Plot https://www.forbes.com/sites/kenrapoza/2016/10/31/et-tu-embraer-this-might-just-be-how-brazil-business-gets- done/#2aaf1d872c82 Weapons Issues - With UK, USA, etc. UK ‘UK acting as weapons pimp, reaping rewards of Saudi Arabia’s dirty work’  (2016/09/08) https://www.rt.com/op-ed/358692-saudi-terrorism-uk-weapons/ A cross-party group of British MPs have to decide whether to call for the suspension of UK weapons sales to Saudi Arabia or not. By Doug Bernard (2014) https://www.voanews.com/a/saudi-app-appears-to-target-residents-with-surveillance/1946570.html Excerpt:  Online researchers in Canada say they have identified malware intentionally designed to infect and spy on mobile devices in the restive Qatif region of Saudi Arabia, and they think they know who’s behind it.  Analysts with Citizen Lab, a Toronto-based privacy and security research institute, say they have evidence that an Android-based mobile news app called “Qatif Today” has been deliberately altered to turn mobile phones into surveillance devices. The authors also strongly implicate the Italy-based intelligence firm Hacking Team as being behind the malware.  The website for Hacking Team says the for-profit company provides what it calls “lawful interception technology” only to government agencies for the express purpose of conducting electronic surveillance.  The authors of the Citizen Lab report say once downloaded, the doctored “Qatif Today” application would provide near complete access to all the data on the user’s mobile phone. Additionally, the malware siphons off information about the user’s social media activity on platforms such as Facebook, Viber, Skype and WhatsApp.  “Documents we have reviewed suggest that Hacking Team refers to this kind of mobile implant as an ‘Installation Package,’ where a legitimate third party application file is bundled with the implant,” write the report’s authors.  Adding concern, the researchers also say that those controlling the malware could remotely switch on the infected phone’s microphone and cameras and to surreptitiously record the user. The report does not conclusively say who is controlling the fake app. https://www.voanews.com/a/saudi-app-appears-to-target-residents-with-surveillance/1946570.html Technologies: Mass Surveillance in Saudi Arabia:  Indiscriminate Mass Surveillance Capabilities are Growing at a Shocking Speed (2017) https://www.technologies.org/?tag=mass-surveillance-in-saudi-arabia Israeli NSO Spyware-Saudi Aggression-Amnesty Victim Forbes: Amnesty Activist Targeted in Whats App Based Hack (2018/08/01) https://www.forbes.com/sites/thomasbrewster/2018/08/01/amnesty-activist-targeted-in-whatsapp-based- hack/#184a60e6353b Israel’s NSO Group makes some of the most invasive, powerful spyware on the planet. The monarchy’s relationship with the Bush clan, including both Presidents H.W. and George, was particularly intimate. After vowing war against Islamist terrorism in the aftermath of 9/11, George fils allowed Saudi nationals to flee the country while Americans were grounded. After the death of King Abdullah early last year, Obama administration officials offered slavish praise of the departed, speaking of his moderation, courage, tolerance, vision and asceticism. The Washington Post reported yesterday: “the administration felt that, despite the occasional bumps, its relations with the kingdom had reached a smooth cruising speed since King Salman took over last January.” See also: Material on above writer, Doug Bandow, note Institute on Religion and Public Policy Doug Bandow I write about international politics, economics, and development. Bradley.(2017/09/02) https://www.spectator.co.uk/2017/09/forget-our-misguided-friendship-with-saudi-arabia-iran-is-our-natural-ally/ Excerpt:In the wake of this sectarian carnage it seems preposterous that Donald Trump stood next to Saudi Arabia’s King Salman in Riyadh in May at the launch of a new centre to combat Islamic extremism. In a keynote speech, Trump had, just as bizarrely, singled out Iran and its Shia proxies as the instigators of terrorism and sectarian bloodshed in the region. …A recent report, suppressed by the UK government, revealed the majority of funding for UK mosques that promote Islamist extremism, and which play a crucial role in radicalising homegrown jihadis, originates from Saudi Arabia and other Gulf Arab countries that also embrace the odious Wahhabi ideology. These findings tally with other exhaustive studies on the expansion of Islamist extremism, both here and in Europe, which have singled out the spread of Saudi-sponsored Wahhabism as the gravest threat to our security and values. All were similarly ignored by those who rule in our name. https://www.spectator.co.uk/2017/09/forget-our-misguided-friendship-with-saudi-arabia-iran-is-our-natural-ally/
